WHEN CONVERSATIONS TURN INTO BATTLES
It always starts small.
A conversation. A discussion. A difference of opinion.
And before I even notice, something shifts and I’m no longer talking to understand, I’m talking to defend.
My heart beats faster.
My voice changes, even if I try to keep it calm.
Suddenly, it’s not about the topic anymore , it’s about proving I’m right, or at least, not wrong.
It becomes a little fight. An intense little fight.
Not with yelling. Not with open conflict. But with tone, tension, and unspoken emotion.
And the worst part?
I only realize it later after the conversation is over.
That I wasn't really listening. That I was just trying not to feel small.
That somewhere in that moment, I stopped being curious… and started being careful.
But here’s what I’ve come to understand...
Sometimes, when I raise my voice, it’s not anger. It’s not ego.
It’s excitement. It’s emotion. It’s the need to be heard.
In those moments, it’s not about being right
It’s about not being ignored.
It’s my heart trying to speak louder than my fear.
Why does that happen?
Because deep down, we all just want to be understood.
We all want our thoughts to matter to mean something to someone else.
And when they’re brushed off or challenged, it feels personal, even if it’s not meant to be.
But I’m learning.
I’m learning that every intense little fight is a mirror.
It shows me where I’m still insecure. Where I still need to grow.
It shows me how I confuse disagreement with disrespect.
And how my silence can sometimes be louder than the words I speak.
I want to do better.
I want to pause.
To breathe.
To remind myself that I don’t need to win every conversation.
That understanding is stronger than proving.
That not every discussion has to feel like war.
Some things are worth letting go.
Some battles aren’t worth winning.
And sometimes… being heard matters more than being right.
Sometimes, peace is the real power.
Superb Post!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat you want after battle really defines the result of battle.
1. You want to be HAPPY ? Or
2. You want to be RIGHT ?
This is so real and beautifully written. You’ve captured the silent storms we face in everyday conversations -where the need to be heard often outweighs the need to be right. Thank you for reminding us that peace, reflection, and understanding are the true victories.
